Ladakh is a Mecca for all bikers. All bikers definitely like to visit Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir atleast once in their life time on their bikes. Ladakh is a beautiful place and even wonderful when explored on bikes. Unlike any other tour, you have to be prepared for a ride.
What are the things should you carry for a ride to Ladakh:
- Water: Ladakh is a cold desert on a high terrain. The oxygen level is also low on many places. The only source of getting oxygen into your blood is water. You should carry at least 2 litres of bottles alongwith your bike. You won’t feel thirsty, but still you should consume water.
- Chocolates: Get some chocolates with you. It will give you instant energy. If you are stuck up somewhere, this is a lifesaver.
- First Aid Kit: You should carry basic medicines for fever, bandages, antiseptic cream, cotton etc.
- Sunscreen Cream: Though Ladakh is a cold place, but you should carry sunscreen cream of atleast 50 SPF as the sunrays are very sharp.
- Sunglasses: You should have very good quality of sunglasses as the sunrays are sharp. When the sunrays fall on snow, the reflection of it may damage your retina.
- Rain Coat: In Ladakh, it may start rain anytime. Carry a raincoat.
- Woolens: During the day time you may feel a bit warm, but just after sunset, the place becomes cold.
- Tool Kit: Basic tool kit should be there in your bag with some knowledge about your bike.
- Tube: Extra tube helps if your bike is not fitted with tubeless tyres.
- Polythene bags: Ladakh is plastic free zone. You won’t get plastic carry bags or polythene bags in Jammu Kashmir. Carry a few polythene bags with you. You may dump your wet clothes in it.
- Extra Shoes: Don’t forget to carry extra shoes. You will have to do a lot of river crossings. It is possible, your shoes get wet. Riding bike with wet shoes in cold weather is a bit difficult.
- Petrol Can: A rider should have a petrol can of atleast 5 litres for any emergencies.
